What I Do

My hope is to provide a gentle and affirming therapeutic space where those I work with can be their most free and authentic selves. I offer a safe environment in which others can feel wholly supported as they tap into their natural gifts and skills to meet their unique needs, navigate life stressors and challenges, and find healing within themselves.

I am very client-led as I believe each person is the expert of their own life. The relationship we build is sacred and in bearing witness to their healing and growth, I honour the identities and lived experiences each individual brings with them into the room.

Decolonizing Mental Health

My approach is highly intentional in decolonizing and divesting from common practices in the mental health field rooted in white supremacy, and instead aims to follow non-traditional ideologies based in radical, anti-oppressive practice that centers ancestral and intergenerational trauma healing, especially for BIPOC communities that have been historically oppressed.

In our collaborative therapeutic work, I utilize a blend of trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and progressive methods — including mindfulness-infused play and art therapy, drama therapy, and somatic, psychodynamic, and Brainspotting practices that integrate the natural mind-body healing processes with your innate skills and inner wisdom. Together, we will not only work towards making positive and lasting changes in your life, but also be in pursuit of transformative healing and your ultimate self-liberation.

Who I work with

I have worked in social services for nearly a decade and have extensive experience supporting people of all ages, particularly survivors of DV/IPV, sexual abuse and trauma, immigrants (including those who are undocumented), LGBTQ+ identifying individuals, neurodivergent individuals, people of Indo-Caribbean and South Asian descent, and communities of colour across NYC.

As a licensed therapist, I offer individual psychotherapy sessions via telehealth for adults (18+), with priority being given to Black and Brown women, gender non-conforming individuals and those with LGBTQ+ identities.

At this time, I have a few open slots and am accepting new clients. If you are interested in therapy with me, please contact me to find out more about potentially working together.

Centering Indo-Caribbeans

As a Guyanese immigrant, I am passionate about being in service to my own cultural community and consider it an honour and a calling to do what I can to provide these much needed therapeutic services to Indo-Caribbean people in NYC and back home in Guyana.

In growing my practice, I am pursuing specialization in ancestral and intergenerational trauma healing specifically for the global diaspora of Indo-Caribbean people and Descendants of Indian Indenture in order to highlight and directly address the nuanced issues specific to these communities.

I invite you to connect with me for a free consult, especially if you’re looking for something different from the run of the mill approaches out there in the therapy world, seeking decolonized mental health care, and feel we might be a good fit!

Rates

Standard session fee: $150

Payment can be made via Zelle or Venmo.

I also offer fees on a sliding scale, based on availability and your financial capacity. Please note that these spots are limited.

To support individuals who need mental health care but cannot meet my standard rate, I offer solidarity rates to those who are willing and able to afford a higher rate. This allows me to provide services to low-income and working class clients at a reduced rate that works for them. If cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out and I will be happy to discuss options with you.

FAQs

Do you provide telehealth sessions?

Yes, all sessions are provided to New York State residents via telehealth over a HIPPA-compliant platform that guarantees confidentiality and privacy. I do not currently provide in-person sessions.

Do you take health insurance?

At this time, I am not on any insurance panels. I am an out-of-network provider. However, if you have out-of-network benefits, upon request I can provide superbills that may allow you to be reimbursed by your health insurance company for a portion or the entirety of the cost of your session. Here are some questions you can ask your insurance company to determine whether you have out-of-network coverage and benefits:

  1. Do I have out-of-network behavioral/mental health benefits?
  2. What is the coverage amount/percentage per session for an out-of-network mental health provider using billing code 90837 (1 hour) and/or 90834 (45 mins)?
  3. Do I have a deductible that I have to meet and, if so, how much has been met this year so far?
  4. Do I require pre-authorization and/or have a limited amount of visits per year?

Do you speak any other languages?

Yes, I am a Guyanese immigrant and my native dialect is Guyanese Creolese/Patois — yes, this is a legitimate language in its own right! In addition to English, I am able to communicate with and understand those whose native tongues include Caribbean Patois dialects from Guyana, Trinidad and Jamaica. We deserve mental health care from practitioners who speak and sound like us!

Do you prescribe medication?

I am not a psychiatrist or medical professional and, therefore, I do not prescribe medication. I can make referrals to psychiatrists and other health care providers near you who are able to do so if needed. With your consent, I will do my very best to support you in providing appropriate resources and collaborating with other professionals who provide care for you in your healing.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you ever need to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask that you let me know 48 hours in advance. If there is a later cancellation you will incur a cancellation fee which is the full rate of your session.
